Verb[edit]

іти́ (itýimpf (perfective піти́)

  1. to go (on foot), to walk
  2. to go by, to pass (about time)
  3. to come out (about vapor, smoke)
  4. to go on, to proceed (about meeting)

Usage notes[edit]

  • іти́ (itý) and піти́ (pitý) are concrete verbs. Their counterpart, ходи́ти (xodýty), is an abstract verb.
  • The forms іти́ (itý) (used after consonants or at the beginning of a clause) and йти (jty) (used after vowels) differ in pronunciation but are considered variants of the same word.
