From Proto-Slavic *kurъka; equivalent to кур (kur, rooster) (obsolescent) +‎ -ка (-ka). Cognate with Macedonian ќурка (ḱurka, turkey), Serbo-Croatian ħу̏рка (turkey). Further loaned into Romanian curcă (turkey hen).
